On Wednesday 25th March 2026, on the Feast of the Annunciation, the 106th Archbishop of Canterbury was installed in Canterbury Cathedral during a service attended by 2000 people. Unfortunately, Rev Becky was unable to secure a ticket but that wasn’t going to stop her being part of the celebrations.
When Becky was ordained in 2014, a motion to allow women into the House of Bishops did not pass at General Synod. It wasn’t until 2015 when we first saw Bishop Libby Lane being consecrated in York Minster. Since then, Birmingham has been blessed with the ministry of Bishop Anne and now we have welcomed Bishop Esther as the Bishop of Aston.
Becky said she didn’t think it possible that she would see a female Archbishop in her lifetime. However, it was announced in October 2025 that Bishop Sarah Mullaly would be the 106th Archbishop of Canterbury.
The atmosphere in Canterbury was electric with people gathered outside of the cathedral watching the service on their phones. At the end of the service, Archbishop Sarah came out to bless the city. Becky had waited to see this and was delighted to speak to Archbishop Sarah – even asking her for a selfie!
Let us give thanks for our new Archbishop, for her gifts of grace, love and service, and for all she will bring to our Church.
