Celebrating 100 Years of Holy Trinity Scout Group

To celebrate 100 years of 4th Sutton Coldfield (Holy Trinity) Scout Group, we held a

centenary day service at Holy Trinity Church and invited lots of special guests to

attend.

The day started with a celebration service, where the choir and band led us in songs

that are special to scouts, including whistling along to the Scout hymn! After hearing

the story of the Good Samaritan, we looked at how things like community, caring for

God’s world, a place to belong, and even fire are symbols in both Christianity and

Scouting. We prayed using sweeties, then ate a lot of birthday cakes! After the

service, we had a brilliant fun day in the grounds of the church. Some of the young

people involved told us about their favourite parts:

Amy, from Trinity Explorers, writes: Centenary Day was a truly wonderful occasion,

bringing together scouts across the ages to celebrate 100 years of the 4th Sutton

Coldfield Scouts. The atmosphere was alive with an abundance of activities for all

ages. Some were classic “scouty” traditions — making a s’more, crafting a woggle,

or tackling the rock-climbing wall. Others were pure fun, like bouncing around on the

bouncy castle. There was truly something for everyone, reflecting the inclusive spirit

that scouting is all about. The highlight of the day, though, was the gathering of

generations. Scouts young and old came together to share stories of their

adventures, reconnect with old friends, and celebrate the bonds that scouting

creates. It was a living reminder of what scouting represents: community, friendship,

and belonging.

The centenary day was a great experience and I loved every minute of it. My

favourite parts were the inflatables and the find 100 living things stall. I also liked the

ice cream van and playing with my friends. It was a brilliant day. (Adam, aged 9)

I went to the centenary day, I had so much fun playing with my friends. I really

enjoyed the Teddy zip wire, my toy turtle loved it. I also liked looking around the field

for different types of bugs and beetles for the find 100 living things stall. I loved

cooking the marshmallows and making 100 s’mores. It was amazing! (Leah, aged 7)
