Social Blog

Doesn’t time fly! I can’t believe we’re now in 2019: it only seems five minutes since we were celebrating the new millennium. So, what have we been doing on the Social Committee?

Well, ‘Film Club‘ is on-going and proving very popular with members of the congregation, our group churches St Chads, St Peters and beyond. We meet on the first Monday of the month at 7pm at the Trinity Centre, but to get a good seat it’s best to be there by 6.45pm. Due to licence restrictions we can’t publish the film we are showing, but it’s advertised in the service sheet and in the weekly newsletter.

The Knit ‘n’ Natter group is proving popular – with the main emphasis being on the ‘natter’! We do knitting, sewing, crochet, drawing and crafts. During the past year, the group knitted Easter chicks, crocheted Easter baskets and knitted several Pudsey bears for ‘Children in Need’. We also made blankets for a hospital in Ethiopia, as well as doing our own personal projects. The crucial part of the session is tea, coffee and cake!

The run up to Christmas is always very busy for everyone so we’ve decided to hold a ‘Post Christmas Party‘ at 7.00pm on the 26th January. Originally it was going to be linked with Burn’s night, but we didn’t plan far enough ahead and callers for Scottish dancing are quite busy over that weekend, so we decided to hold a ‘Greatest Showman Sing-a-long’ party. We will be preparing a hot meal, with a choice of chicken tarragon, chilli and rice, or jacket potatoes and filling. Tickets are available from the Trinity Centre office, priced £5 for adults and £2.50 For children. These must be purchased in advance so we have enough food! To keep the cost down, it’s ‘bring your own drinks’.

The Social Committee has been supporting the various Friends events with the refreshments and will be for future events, including the Silent Film with live piano accompaniment (23rd February), Zelkova Quartet (23rd March), Lichfield Cathedral choir (17th May) and Bluebird Belles (22nd June).

We were planning to hold a table top sale (like a car boot sale but inside) but unfortunately have had to postpone the event. It will go ahead later in the year. We’ll probably be holding a Quiz with a fish and chip supper later in the year as well so keep an eye out for announcements.

So there’s a lot going on at Holy Trinity – please do come and join us at our regular events, or when new events are announced. See you there!
