Fifteen years ago when I moved to Sutton Coldfield from the Isle of Wight I didn’t know anybody, except my immediate family, and knew nothing at all about Sutton. I don’t really think I was even aware that it formed part of Birmingham! So I went along to Holy Trinity and discovered that a Fellowship group met in the Trinity Centre. I thought this might be a good way of getting to know people, so I went to the meetings.
At that time we met twice a month on a Tuesday afternoon. We began with a hymn and some prayers, then had a speaker, and finished off the afternoon with tea and biscuits. The speakers ranged from people sharing their experiences of foreign holidays to speakers from local charities. At Christmas we had carols and readings followed by mince pies, and in Lent we shared in the Lent studies for that year. We have been on outings to places such as Chester & Stratford, and also to a garden centre.
We do not meet in August and so our next meeting will be the first Tuesday in September, when we begin the new session with a service in church, followed by refreshments. At the moment we are only meeting once a month, but hopefully we can go back to twice a month in the future.
At our October meeting the speaker will be sharing his experiences of Chile, in November our speaker will be talking about ‘Gaping Gill’ a natural cave and waterfall in North Yorkshire, and in December we will be celebrating with mince pies and carols.
Fifteen years on, I can truly say that I have made lots of new friends and learnt a lot about Sutton Coldfield and Birmingham through attending Church Fellowship meetings.
Remaining dates for 2013 are Sep 3rd, October 1st, November 5th, and December 3rd, all at 2.30pm.
Everyone is made very welcome. Come and hear an interesting speaker and share in a chat around tea and biscuits.
