Pentecost and Trinity provide the opportunity for some wonderful music focusing on the coming of the Holy Spirit to the disciples at Pentecost (19th May) and God the Father, Son and Spirit in the Trinity season. This year Pentecost coincides with the Civic Service and the choir will sing a recent setting by Kenneth Holland of the lovely ancient words translated by Bishop Cosin as "Come Holy Ghost our souls inspire".
As our church is dedicated to "God himself" (as a former Rector once put it) this gives us double opportunity to praise his name in word and music, and, as well as Trinity Sunday itself (26th May), there is a long season of 'Sundays after Trinity'. During this time we will host the group confirmation service on 23rd June at 6.30pm, where we hope to be joined by the choirs of our sister churches of St Peter's and St Chad's. Expect a John Rutter anthem in there among the musical gems!
There will be a Parade service on 9th June (usually on Trinity Sunday but deferred as that will be during half-term) when the band will join in the music-making. The uniformed organisations will be introduced to some of the music at their meetings in advance of this service. The band may also be in action for worship, craft and food in the Trinity Centre on the afternoon of Pentecost (19th May at 4pm). The informal setting of our Centre should encourage those who may find the civic dignity of the morning service a challenge!
